The Journey of Perungalathur Library

                           Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
Since 1969, the Perungalathur library works as model Library from the day one. The Journey of the Library is the rational approach to reach the people and society to increase the Reading habit. The habit is now developed as conventional stage, as the library is a “Model Library”.
Initially the Library was started with 300 books on 28-3-1969. Now it has increased to 35,000 Books, with 4000 Members and 188 Thousand Rupees Donors. Even the day one of republic India, the root cause of the society is the communication gap. The Perungalathur Library always differs from others. The Reading habit is constantly high. The only and single indication is the Library.
We thank the Great people on those days -- Mr.E.Ramadas, Mr MUNU ADI Ex. MLA (MLA on those days), T.L.Ragupathi (Head of Gram Panchayat), and Mr  V.Govindaraj. Due to the service oriented approach, the Library is now developed as “Model Library” to this level. Those days Perungalathur come under the “Grama Panchayat Union”. Now the same town is developed as “Town Panchayat  (PERURAACHI)” . In these fast and scientific worlds the “Computer and Web” is part of the natural life. Obviously the Library also needs to develop in the fast world approach. The exclusive internet web site for Perungalathur Library is the initial step to enter into the “Electronic and Virtual” World. Now the Government has introduced the full computerized library in Connemara Library and District Library Head Quarters level only. But the Perungalathur is the only single Library to enter into this Virtual world called WEB world. Hope this project is the kick-off to develop all Panchayat level libraries are to interlink with state Head Quarters.

For the establishment of the “Virtual World” all the credit goes to “Mr.K.Damodaran,” Librarian. He is the single man army to achieve the task.  Due to the same , the Govt. of Tamil Nadu also grant the  award called Best Librarian (NAL NOOLAGAR) for the Year 2011.
